Shiatsu Therapy

Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese manual therapy that incorporates principles and techniques from acupuncture, targeting various reflex points known as 'tsubos' along the body's meridians. These meridians, or energy channels, are linked to different vital organs and their functions, which in Traditional Chinese Medicine extend beyond mere anatomy. This type of therapy operates not only on a physical level but also reaches deeper energetic and emotional aspects. The philosophy guiding shiatsu is rooted in an Eastern worldview that sees matter and the immaterial as interconnected. In this context, "Ki"(or "Qi") is regarded as the universal life force behind all living things. The core principle of shiatsu therapy is to facilitate the free flow of "Ki" throughout the body. The goal is to restore balance by helping to eliminate any blockages and replenish any deficiencies.Sessions typically last for 1 hour and 30 minutes, and clients remain fully clothed. It's advisable to allocate additional time for the first treatment, as the practitioner will need to gather a comprehensive health history to understand your condition thoroughly. Shiatsu treatments are usually conducted on a padded futon mat at floor level, but they can also be performed on a specialized massage couch based on the client's preferences.Benefits of Shiatsu include:
- Promoting relaxation for both mind and body
- Restoring and balancing energy levels
- Alleviating tension and stiffness
- Enhancing posture
- Improving overall wellbeing
Practitioners often find that regular sessions can lead to a deeper understanding of one's own body and its needs, fostering a greater sense of self-awareness. Shiatsu is also known to complement other forms of therapy, making it a versatile choice for those seeking holistic health approaches. For those new to Shiatsu, it can be an enlightening experience, as the gentle yet firm pressure applied by the practitioner's fingers, thumbs, and palms can unlock areas of tension and promote a profound sense of tranquility. Whether you're looking to alleviate physical discomfort or simply wish to explore a new avenue for relaxation and self-care, Shiatsu offers a unique and enriching path to wellness.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that entails applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, face, or ears to foster deep relaxation and facilitate healing. This practice is founded on the belief that various reflex areas correspond to different systems and organs within the body.As a holistic therapy, reflexology aims to help the body restore its natural balance. During the initial consultation, a comprehensive medical history of the client is recorded, and a treatment plan is established. Typically, sessions last about one hour, during which creams or oils are applied to the massage areas, primarily the feet. The practitioner uses their fingers and thumbs to apply gentle pressure, skillfully working over the reflex points to stimulate energy flow and promote overall well-being. Many clients report feeling a sense of calm and rejuvenation after a session, as tension is released and circulation improves. Reflexology may also aid in reducing stress, alleviating pain, and enhancing mood. While reflexology is not a substitute for medical treatment, it can be a valuable addition to a wellness routine. Those who engage in regular sessions often find it enhances their quality of life, supporting both physical and emotional health. Whether seeking relief from chronic conditions or simply looking for a way to unwind and reconnect with oneself, reflexology offers a nurturing and restorative experience.

Seated Acupressure

A chair massage or seated acupressure session typically lasts between 10 to 30 minutes. This abbreviated Shiatsu treatment is conducted on a comfortable massage chair and primarily targets tension relief in the neck, shoulders, and back. It is particularly beneficial for individuals who spend extended hours at a computer or for those who may not have time for a full futon treatment. The convenience and efficiency of a chair massage make it an ideal choice for busy professionals seeking quick rejuvenation during their lunch break or in between meetings. The practitioner uses a combination of gentle pressure, kneading, and stretching techniques to release built-up tension and improve circulation, leaving recipients feeling refreshed and more focused. Additionally, this form of massage can help reduce stress levels, enhance mood, and promote overall well-being, making it a popular option for wellness programs in workplaces or community events.

"I have had many treatments over the years from various osteopaths and masseurs but I can honestly say Daniels way of working is by far the best I have experienced. I relax the moment he starts to touch me and we joke that I always fall asleep halfway through. Daniel's touch has a very healing quality to it and I always feel better after a treatment, even if I wasn’t feeling especially under par beforehand!" - Kim Jarred, teacher

"Daniel gave me a wonderful treatment this week that has helped me to recover from a nasty fall on my side which has bruised my ribs and shoulder. I have been visiting osteopaths and chirorpractors for a few decades and Daniel's work is as good as the best I have visited. He was able to recover a lot of arm movement for me and a hugh reduction is the pain from my ribs with just one session. I also have some home work on breathing that I am using to aid my recovery too. I highly recommend Daniel's work to you. Thanks for your help Daniel and I look forward to my next check up." - Phil Sherman, actor
